What are the challenges that you have observed in the industry?

Amidst the industry’s persistent talent war, a shortage of skilled professionals in key specialized areas poses a significant challenge. To overcome this hurdle and become the preferred employer, we recognize the need for a compelling employee branding proposition. Especially in the post-COVID era, retaining and securing the best talent has become more daunting.

To tackle this issue, we strive to create an organization that fosters work-life harmony rather than merely seeking work-life balance. Embracing work-life integration in the modern gig economy, we value personal life, family, and relationships. Our culture promotes flexibility through a hybrid working environment, allowing employees to work at various times and locations, with in-office options when needed for team connectivity.

By prioritizing a balanced culture and supportive policies, we honor and respect our employees’ personal lives. We understand their responsibilities and grant them the freedom to manage their personal lives on their terms.

How do you address talent shortages and employee turnover to attract and retain top talents in your organization?

We implement several strategic approaches to address talent shortages and employee turnover. Firstly, we conduct thorough talent assessments to identify employees who are regrettable losses and those who have a significant impact on our business. This allows us to focus our retention efforts where they are most needed. Additionally, we maintain open and transparent conversations with highpotential individuals, assessing their engagement levels and understanding their preferences, concerns, and aspirations within the organization. This enables us to address their needs effectively, whether it involves work arrangements, benefits, or compensation.

"It is important to remember that we are dealing with people, and before anything else, we should prioritize their well-being"

Secondly, we emphasize clear growth opportunities and well-defined career paths for our high-potential employees. By planning up to five years in advance, we ensure that they remain excited about their current role and what the future holds for them within the organization. This sense of purpose and connection helps in keeping them engaged and satisfied, reducing the likelihood of them seeking opportunities elsewhere.

Furthermore, we are committed to diversity and inclusion (D&I) policies, creating a safe and inclusive environment for all employees. This commitment reinforces the notion that our organization values and appreciates each individual, further contributing to employee retention.

What would you advise your peers and budding professionals in the industry?

I believe that sometimes, in HR, we tend to adhere too strictly to policies and procedures, losing sight of our humanity. It’s important to remember that we are dealing with people, and before anything else, we should prioritize their wellbeing. Understanding the business is essential, but realizing that employees are the most valuable asset a company has should never be overlooked.

To foster engagement, it’s crucial to maintain close communication with employees, address their concerns, and collaborate on finding innovative solutions tailored to their needs. Flexibility is key, as each individual’s experience is unique, and accommodating their diverse thoughts and ideas significantly impacts their sense of belonging to the organization.
